The Fenit Historical Group has 8 members and are planning their future direction, such as gathering the minor placenames of the area. While the main townland placenames are fairly well known, the minor placenames- the names of small geographic features, either natural or constructed—are not officially recognised or recorded, and do not generally appear on any maps.

The Historical Group has assisted recently in compiling a few Fenit place names suitable for signposting such as Oileán Éamon. They are also writing a brief potted history of Fenit and St. Brendan for inclusion on the Fenit website.
